·         The Brief - As well as undertaking the demolition of various buildings (some of which are adjacent to retained operational manufacturing facilities), IWA were initially responsible for the Enabling Works contract.   This comprised the construction of a new 30,000,m2 open hard-standing for a Vehicle Release Facility (VRF) on which General Motors (GM) stored their completed vehicles; the construction of a new 15m x 130m long reinforced concrete ramp cut through the bottom storey of the retained existing structure to take the GM vehicle transporters up 8m to the new VRF; the construction of a new 260m x 15m high external wall to the existing GM Press Shop (which had to remain fully operational throughout).   The integration of a high intensity floodlighting solution and diversion of key electrical, sprinkler mains and security & telecommunications.

·         Value Engineering – 7.5 acres of floodlighting had to be installed without taking up usable ground space by installing on inclines and roofs. A challenging requirement for such a large area.

·         Energy Efficiency and Green Issues - Underfloor heating, New Audio Visual systems, Condensing Boilers, Ventilation,      Domestic Water, Sanitation, Automatic Controls, Energy Efficient lighting with lighting control, Power, Security, Fire Detection.
